| Education Empowers — Soroptimist Invests in Dreams
Congratulations to students and teachers who received nearly $17,000 in Soroptimist education grants on February 18! The club is grateful to Karin for leading this committee with Alaire, Ann, Ardella, Cindy J., Elizabeth, Julie, Karen and Ralene.
Four women won “Soroptimist International Live Your Dream Awards.” The goal is to help women, who are heads of their households and often overcoming major obstacles, to continue their education so they can enter careers that will support their families.
Two Del Oro High School student leaders in community service received “Loomis Soroptimist Investing in Dreams Awards.”
The “Loomis Soroptimist Dream It, Be It Award” recognized four Confluence West High School students who developed skills, explored career plans and set career goals. And their teacher, Morgan Zerwas, was thanked for collaborating with the Soroptimist club to make the Dream It, Be It program meaningful for her students.
Senior L.I.F.E. Center of Loomis received a Soroptimist Grant to fund teachers. Since 1978, when the Soroptimist club founded the senior center, members have supported the center’s social and educational activities.
From the Loomis Union School District, 16 teachers received grants supporting TK-8 class programs and projects that will impact students for many years.

| Club Promotes Trafficking Awareness with Multiple Projects
Thank you to Barbara, Karen & Karin for representing the club at the Placer County Red Sand Project on January 15. By pouring red sand into sidewalk cracks, we help make the invisible visible — honoring victims, supporting survivors, and committing to continued education and action.
The big news is that plans are underway for a Soroptimist community event on May 3 at Del Oro. Hidden in Plain Sight: Human Trafficking in Our Community will include prominent speakers on human trafficking in our area as well as a resource fair of trusted local experts and agencies. We hope all our members will join us in making this project a success.
The club’s trafficking awareness coffee sleeves that have been increasing awareness across the community. They help spark important conversations and connect people to life-saving resources. You can find these coffee sleeves at several local businesses, including:
Roanie’s
76 Penryn
Greenhouse
Turkey Creek Bar & Grill
Smithville
To support Julie’s Purse project that donates purses filled with toiletries to women at Stand Up Placer and other women in need, the club will be filling purses at the April 15 meeting. More details to follow. |

| President’s Message
I am so proud of all the members of SILB!
- We had a fantastic fundraiser with our “It’s in the Bag” Purse Event last month. Thank you to Jenny, Cindy D. and the committee for working so hard in making this a huge success.
- Our Human Trafficking committee continues to actively promote the need to fight trafficking in our area. The committee is focusing on finalizing details for an upcoming human trafficking awareness event on Sunday, May 3.
- Our mission of providing women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment was fulfilled through our Awards Ceremony this month. The Awards committee did a lot of work determining who deserved the awards and planning the ceremony. SILB generously awarded $17,000 to deserving women and girls, educators from the Loomis Union School District and education at the Senior L.I.F.E. Center.
We are an amazing group of focused women! Thank you for all your work and dedication.
Dream BIG, Work Hard, Make It Happen,
President Bev |

| District 4 Message from Rae
I’ve been busy planning our District 4 Leadership Summit, which will be held on March 7th and hosted by the Soroptimist of American River club. Registration is now open for the 2026 District 4 Leadership Summit (Winter Meeting).
The summit aims to promote group engagement by discussing good leadership versus bad leadership. We will explore the five main leadership styles, identifying each and reflecting on where you see yourself within them.
Additionally, our special guest speaker, Susan Dakuzadu, will address our concerns about taking on leadership roles.
Please attend if you can. I’m looking forward to everyone learning, enjoying, sharing and finding camaraderie.
Thank you,
District 4 Director – Rae

| Members to Offer Nutrition Training at Acres of Hope
Members have an opportunity to get involved with a project that benefits the women and children of Acres of Hope, according to Committee Chair Elizabeth.
“On Saturday, April 18, members will present an educational program on nutrition, healthy eating for kids/family and smart shopping tips,” said Elizabeth. “After the one-hour program, we serve lunch (that we make and bring), and sit and talk with the mothers and kids. Then, we’ll host a fun and games activity with prizes given away.”
“All club members are welcome to participate in this Soroptimist mission-focused program. Whether you can help in advance and/or April 18th, there’s a role for everyone: presenter, training helper, food prep crew, games facilitator and helper,” said Elizabeth. Contact her for more information. |

| What is S.O.L.T.?
S.O.L.T. stands for Soroptimist Orientation & Leadership Training. It can be delivered as an informative minute at a meeting, in a newsletter brief, or through more formalized training offered by the Soroptimist club, district or region.
S.O.L.T. helps members feel part of the club by explaining Soroptimist history, protocol and projects. One goal is to help reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed from the “alphabet soup” of acronyms and projects. It can be remembered as getting a Soroptimist “grain of S.O.L.T.” |
