Through events and fundraisers, Soroptimist International Loomis Basin is able to provide scholarship grants to single mothers attending college or training, Loomis Union School District (LUSD) teachers, and girls who are Del Oro High School students and give back through community service. Applications are usually available by October and due in November or December. Awards are granted in February. Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award is due November 15 — These education awards aid women who support their families and need additional training to improve their employment prospects. The SI Loomis Basin Club Live Your Dream awards are up to $2,500 for several awardees. Applicants may only apply to one Club.  Awardees may be eligible for additional Regional Soroptimist awards. Soroptimist Loomis Basin Continue Your Dream Award is due November 15 — This award of up to $1,000 is limited to recent past recipients of the Loomis Basin club’s Live Your Dream Award. Women who still provide the primary financial support for their families, can use this grant to continue their studies to gain skills that improve employability. Loomis Soroptimist Investing in Dreams Award due December 18 — Girls attending Del Oro High School may apply for these Loomis Soroptimist Investing in Dreams Awards which provide grants for education of up to $1,500. On the scholarship application, she must describe how she makes a difference through her volunteer efforts, especially for women and girls, and her future goals. Teacher Grants due Nov. 15 — Each year, SI Loomis Basin awards small grants ($100-$300) to help fund several LUSD teachers’ projects. Funds have been used for equipment, science projects, books and other endeavors that inspire students. Applications will be online this year. Senior L.I.F.E. Center of Loomis annually receives a grant to fund teachers and support education programs. The club has supported the program since its inception by funding activities, volunteering at events and hosting meals.
